What is Hospitality101?

A business driven program committed to training 750+ employees in the Hospitality Industry along America’s Wild Rivers Coast over a three year period.

How will the Hospitality 101 Initiative be developed?

Working closely with businesses to understand the needs of the Hospitality Industry on AWRC, the initiative’s partners, College Of the Redwoods,  Southwestern Oregon Community College, Del Norte Unified School District, Brookings/Harbor School District, Elk Valley Rancheria, Crescent City/Del Norte County Chamber, Brookings/Harbor Chamber, Curry County Economic and Development Department, and the Workforce Center, will develop training courses/internships through the two colleges to meet the identified needs of the Hospitality Industry.

What are Hospitality 101 Initiative’s goals?

The Hospitality Team will confer with businesses to understand their training needs. The Initiative partners will develop and implement curriculum/internships based on the needs identified by the hospitality industry along AWRC. The core curriculum/internships will be based on national industry standards developed by the AHLA with adaptations specific to identified local business needs. Successful completion of the courses/internships will lead to certification by the AHLA.

Where is the funding coming from?

The Del Norte Workforce Center has received a three year grant of $2.1 million dollars from the US Department of Labor~ Employment and Training Administration to train and certify new and existing employees in the Hospitality Industry along AWRC.

How will this benefit America’s Wild Rivers Coast Hospitality Industry?

The Initiative’s goal is to provide a well trained, better informed employee base from which the hospitality industry can draw from. An employee that is better prepared to offer quality customer service, has a sense of ownership for the business in which he/she is employed, has skill training in their chosen line of work, and exhibits positive attitude toward work and customer, will help individuals businesses improve customer loyalty, reduce employee turnover and retraining costs, and help grow a more healthy bottom-line.

The long term cumulative effects of such a program will be beneficial for the individual hospitality businesses in our communities as well as the larger AWRC regional economy.
